My eighth day in Armenia started on the lovely and chilly Harsanadzor Eco Resort in southeastern Armenia for breakfast. I went with apricot jam and cheese wrapped within the lavash. I cherished the candy and salty mixture!

Then, we drove 20 minutes to the Ninth-century Tatev Monastery. It was house to the College of Tatev within the 14th and 15th centuries. It has two watchtowers, enormous partitions, and a principal gate, so it seems to be extra like a fortress. It really was a fortress at one time! Contained in the gate the Ninth-century Saints Paul and Peter Church. It was named after them as a result of a few of their relics had been discovered beneath the columns contained in the church.

There’s additionally a small, cozy 11th-century church known as Holy Mom of God Church. It was restored within the 20th century after struggling harm from an earthquake in 1931. The church might be the smallest church I’ve ever visited! As we climbed to the highest, I noticed a lot of blooming crosses carved into the surface partitions.

On the surface partitions is script written in Armenian. It’s a mixture of contracts and the historical past of the church! There, a part of the wall has been destroyed, so that you get a surprising view over the gorge. The relics at Saints Paul and Peter Church are beneath the columns, so you may’t really see them. However you may see the grave of the primary scholar on the monastery, and the 14th-century bells, which nonetheless perform right now!

Contained in the church, you need to take off your hat and ladies should cowl their head. The look could be very medieval and the partitions are lined in frescoes.

The monastery owned 600 villages and picked up taxes from all of them. They invested that cash within the creation of manuscripts and constructing the monastery.

Then, we headed to the residential space, the place I realized that the monastery’s library contained 10,000 manuscripts that had been destroyed when the Seljuk Turks invaded within the 12th century.

One of many monastery’s most well-known constructions is the Gavazan Siun, or pendulous column. It reveals the place of Orion’s Belt each August 11. In historic instances, that was the beginning of the brand new 12 months!

Then, we left the monastery to catch the Wings of Tatev cable automobile down. The views as you journey above the gorge are insanely lovely. I cherished the “wow” issue of it! The trip took 12 minutes.

Then, it was time for lunch! We handed from the Syunik Province into the Vayots Dzor Province, which is legendary for its slim gorges. The landscapes change so shortly and drastically in Armenia. You possibly can undergo eight local weather zones there!

Then, we arrived at Meals Court docket. There, we’d have some beef kebabs and salads. After a fast toast, I dug into the meat kebab, which got here in a rolled-up lavash with a scrumptious sauce and greens. It additionally had a little bit of spice to it!

Then, I had a watery yogurt drink known as matzoon and a roasted vegetable salad with eggplant. Then, I had one other salad of carrots with oil and pepper, and a beets and pea salad with crimson beans. Every thing was so refreshing and wholesome!

  4. Awesome. David important question, what type of watch is that? I love it!

  5. gothic architecture was based on Armenian architecture. Look at the ruined city of Ani in Western Armenia "eastern turkey" that is where pure Armenian architecture was found. all accross western Armenia in fact, the true heartland of Armenian heritage. todays Armenia is nothing compared to historic Armenia in eastern "turkey" western Armenia. shame turks keep destroying our monuments, or showcase them to the world as "georgian" or "roman".
